How to: Run a Morning Meeting!

Running a positive morning meeting is very important and will set the tone for your day.  I have seen and heard too many managers abuse their staff for low performance from the day before.  All this is doing is killing the momentum for the day, so keep it clean.  I mean come on; no one wants to be talked down to at 9 AM.

If you start your Monday morning meeting off negative, people will walk out negative!  That’s not the tone you want to set for the week.  Not only that, but people will dread your morning meetings, and you will not have much respect from your employees.  Here are some easy tips to live by!  If you do your morning meetings right, people will actually want to hear what you have to say and not come in late on purpose.

  • Always be positive!!  If you have a bad day address it at the end of that day.  DO NOT let it carry over to the next! I wouldn’t address the whole team, but I would address those who brought the group down the most.  It doesn’t have to be a bashing session, but bring to light how tomorrow can be better.
  • Recognize your top performers from the day, week, or month before.  One of the biggest things that motivate people is recognition so JUST DO IT!  It is a cheap, easy, and effective way to get your people motivated.
  • Share some statistics of the company or the team.  If you run a sales team in a large company compare your employees to other teams.  Competition drives most employees whether they admit to it or not, so always compete.  Statistics help us understand what we can do better, so share them.
  • Last but not least, end the meeting with something positive!! Whether it be a story that inspired you or a quote that is relevant to your employees.  You can always find one on officeshakeup.com.  Your team should look up to you, if you have done your job right, so if something inspires you it will more than likely inspire them.

Other than that Keep it Simple Stupid, and keep it short.  No one wants to hear you complain for 45 minutes that early in the morning.
